The bike arrives with everything including a basket and even a bell! We don’t leave you to buy any extras. The Moonbug Balance bike is also light enough to carry, in the event that your little explorers need to check out a covert route.
The Moonbug Balance in action
You've asked, we've answered!
A balance bike is a two-wheeled bike with no pedals where the child pushes with their feet. A balance bike helps teach toddlers as young as 18 months to balance on two wheels. Then, after a brief learning period, toddlers and kids learn to control the bike and ride with no assistance from their parents (except maybe with the help of stabilisers).
A child can start to use a balance bike from around 18 months - to 2 years old. The first thing to do is measure your child’s inside leg, from the sole of the foot up to the inside of the crotch. The minimum inside leg for our balance bikes is 30cm, and you can see our measurement chart here. Our pedal bikes are very slightly bigger than the balance bikes and require a minimum inside leg measurement of 33cm. 12” pedal bikes can also be used from around 2 years old.
Balance bikes do not have pedals or front/rear brakes. The rider sits on the balance bike and scoots along using their feet. Balance bikes are lighter (and therefore easier to carry) than pedal bikes because they have far fewer components. Pedal bikes have pedals and front/rear brakes. Our 12 and 16" pedal bikes come with colour-matched stabilisers (training wheels). Our junior pedal bikes look like mini adult bikes, and come with lots of features, including colour-matched mudguards and chainguards, proper pneumatic tyres for smooth cycling, handmade wicker baskets, comfy sprung saddles and a classic ding-dong bell.
No, you can't. If you are concerned about getting the maximum possible use out of the bike as your child grows, it may be better to get a pedal bike instead, and start with using the stabilisers provided.
Your bike will be delivered to you partially assembled in a box. Assembly is really easy, and you can follow our instructions here. Assembly is normally done inside 30 minutes and basic tools are included with your bike. You will need scissors and a bike pump.
Safety, first!
Now for the finishing touches!
