Finding the correct size bike starts with measuring the legs. Take a measuring tape, place it on the floor inside the leg and measure upwards.

If two sizes fit, always go for the bigger. It will fit for longer, so you don't need to buy a bicycle each time your child grows.

Maintenance Tips for Kids’ Bikes

Not all kids’ bikes have gears, or even pedals. However, they still have tyres that need air and other parts that need to be looked after. Since kids usually aren’t able to maintain their own bikes, you should regularly check not only the tyre inflation, but also that no parts have started to come loose from the frame. Make sure the handlebars are still in line and, if you have stabilisers, make sure they are still firmly attached.

When do kids start riding bikes?

In theory, children can start cycling as soon as they can walk. Kids as young as 18 months start with balance bikes, which helps with their continued development of balance and coordination. However, you should supervise young children with their bikes until they are competent. If they are cycling in public, they should be old enough to respond to your instructions and to stay close at all times.

How much are kids’ bikes?

As you would expect, kids’ bikes cost less than adult bikes since there are fewer materials involved in their manufacture. The cost also scales in terms of the size group and the type of bike. Balance bikes are the cheapest type of kids’ bike due to the fact that they don’t include pedals, a chain, or brakes.

Every family will have their own budget in mind for how much they would spend on a kids’ bike, especially factoring in that the child will eventually grow out of their bike. Therefore, expectations vary when looking for the price of a cheap kids’ bike.
