15 Child-Friendly Bike Rides In Northern Ireland

This beautiful part of the country is popular amongst families for its gorgeous countryside and scenic views. There are plenty of incredible bike trails, so grab your bike and head off on an adventure this year.

Divis Ridge Trail - This spot is great if you’re a keen hiker, mountain biker or cyclist. This trail is open all year round and dogs are welcome, so bring along your furry family friend

Claudy Country Park - Located in the beautiful County Derry, this spot allows you to hire a bike for a day and head off on a fun family day out.

Castle Ward Shore Trail - This route is an easy one for younger kids since the path is flat and there aren’t any barriers. Plus, you’ll be passing plenty of history on the way since there’s a castle nearby.

Barnett Demesne Blue Trail - If you’re looking for a path surrounded by nature then this is perfect. Here, you’ll find a path within a beautiful forest popular amongst hikers and mountain bikers. 

Lagan Towpath - If a waterside view is what you’re looking for then look no further. This spot follows the waterside of Lagan Towpath.

Castlewellan Green Trail - Popular amongst all ages, this trail would take you around 30 minutes to complete and offers a range of scenery and activities. 

Craigavon Lakes Mountain Bike Trail  - This trail has plenty of history. It was the first purpose-built mountain bike trail in Northern Ireland and the first designed and built inside of a city park in the UK. It’s 10.6kms long with 7kms of singletrack.

The Comber Greenway - This traffic-free cycle route connects County Down to the heart of Belfast. It’s perfect for families and young kids since the path is paved and smooth. Lightweight bikes are a great option here.

Ballycarton Wood/Binevenagh trail - This is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and by cycling this trail, you’ll get breathtaking views of the cliffs that overlook Lough Foyle. 

Dungannon Park - Perfect for young kids, this route is traffic-free and offers gorgeous views of Dungannon Park. Why not grab your balance bike with basket and head off on one of the fantastic cycling routes.

Lough Neagh Loop from Portadown - This route is 79 miles long and would take you around 5 hours and 30 minutes to complete. You’ll pass some fantastic scenic routes and waterside views.

Sketrick island Loop from Belfast Lanyon Place - This loop is 35 miles long which would take you around 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete. Some sections are unpaved so maybe try a mountain bike or hybrid bike here.

Glenoe Waterfall Loop from Belfast (Great Victoria Street) - This loop is more difficult, it’s 79 miles long and would take you just under 6 hours to complete.

Ballycopeland Windmill Loop from Drumawhey Junction - This 79 mile long route will see you pass beautiful country lanes and fantastic waterside scenery. It’ll take you around 5 hours to complete.

Poachers Pocket Loop from Sydenham - This is a super easy route taking you just under 2 hours. It’s 26 miles long and will see you pass historic buildings and some great cafes to stop off at.
