Attention, cycling enthusiasts! New roads, routes, and places are waiting for you to conquer this year. It’s the perfect time to start planning your next challenge—or maybe even your first, if you’re new to this.

Our team has compiled a list of must-try British cycling events to mark on your calendar, as well as the must-watch professional cycling sports events you won’t want to miss. Have a look at the 2025 lineup below, and you could soon find yourself and your bike at the starting line.

UK Cycling Events 2025 You Won’t Want to Miss

These cycling events cover all parts of the country, with a mix of terrain, distances, and intensity levels. Whether you’re aiming for a long-distance triathlon, an international cycling trip, exploring a new part of the UK, or getting back on your bike after a break, there’s something here for you.

Westerley Winter Warmer

This annual cycling event, organised by Westerley, heads deep into the Chilterns. It’s a reliability ride (a.k.a. a non-competitive one) and a great way to get some base miles in while testing your winter fitness. You can choose from three route options: 44km (short), 61km (medium), or 110km (long).

The ride starts from Chalfont St Giles, where picturesque views and quiet roads await! Entry for the 26th January ride is free for club members, and non-members may sign up here.

Winter Warm Up Sportive

Missed the Westerly Winter Warmer event? The Winter Warm Up on 15th February is your chance to get back into Sportive riding and shake off those winter cobwebs. You’ll be pedalling through a slightly shorter route than usual, with fewer hills, and a nice early start.

And here’s the best part: there’s a fantastic feed stop at Great Smeaton Village Hall for all routes. Once you’re back at Queen Elizabeth College, you can enjoy a post-ride BBQ sausage bun and a can of Erdinger.

Rustynax Reliability Rides

West London Cycling brings you the second edition of Rustynax Spring Reliability Rides, happening on 22nd February. This event sets you up with new route options: 60km (370m ascent) and 82km (550m ascent). The start and finish lines are at the iconic Rusty Bike Cafe in Fassnidge Park, Uxbridge UB8 2UW.

Along the way, you’ll pass through the stunning Burnham Beeches, with a cafe stop on a classic route around South Buckinghamshire. All finishers will receive a Sew On Patch / Roundel for their collection, as well as a Brevet card.

Note: This will be an Audax-style ride, so make sure you have a device capable of showing the route as you ride. It’s a non-competitive cycling event open to the public. Check the entry fees and ride details here. Hurry, there are only a few slots left!

Lloyds Women’s National Road Series

British Cycling has unveiled its 2025 calendar for the Lloyds National Road and Circuit Series. Starting with the Women’s National Road Series in March, featuring seven exciting rounds! This is a professional sports event for you to watch!

Riders will face a variety of challenging terrains, from the tough circuit of the Lincoln Grand Prix to the hills of Yorkshire. Here’s the lineup for each round:

UKCE Cambridgeshire Classic

The Cambridgeshire Classic is part of Sportive’s Classic Series and kicks off their first ride of the year on Saturday, 8th March. There are three routes to choose from, each offering varying distances to suit different riders, and none of them are too technical. It’s set to be a fun day out on the bike!

No matter which route you choose, you’ll enjoy a fantastic ride through the county of Cambridgeshire, then across to Bedfordshire. On the Long Route, you’ll even briefly head into Northamptonshire in the East Midlands.

You’ll be rewarded for your efforts with a finisher medal and other goodies as you cross the line. Be sure to book early, as last year’s event sold out quickly!

Peak District Gravel X

Join The Glorious Gravel Series this year and enjoy a spring classic ride in the Hope Valley on 15th March. It’s never too late to give yourself something to train for during those long, cold months, right? Take it easy with the medium 52km route, which mixes gravel and back roads, or challenge yourself with the longer 69km option.

The route takes you through wild sections of the moors, the fun and flowing Monsal Trail, gravel tracks around the national park, back roads with epic views, and some glorious hidden local spots. Ride marshals will be on hand to support you, which is a real bonus if you’re a first-timer. There will be feed stops approximately every 30km, plus free beer at the finish line!

Bamburgh Castle Cycle Sportive

This popular North East Sportive returns for its 5th year in the spring of 2025, on 13th April! The main event is a 100km ride, starting and finishing at the majestic Bamburgh Castle. The route will take you through Seahouses, Embleton, Alnmouth, Warkworth, and Amble. Expect drinks, pastries, cakes, chocolates, and sweets to fuel you near Acklington.

There’s also a 50km ride for those looking for a shorter option or if you’re new to Sportive riding. This route will take you down to Craster and back to Bamburgh. The exact routes will be sent upon registration, with GPX links available for download. All routes will be well-signposted.

This is a non-competitive event open to recreational cyclists of all levels. Enter the race here.

Herts Easter Hunt

Don’t feel guilty about eating chocolates this Easter—make it up to yourself by doing something that’ll leave you feeling great. The Herts Easter Hunt cycling event offers just that, with a choice of 33, 65, or 98 miles, depending on your fitness level. It will take place on 26th April at Brookmans Park, Hatfield, Herts, UK.

All three routes take you through the stunning Hertfordshire countryside. You’ll pass through quaint villages and enjoy picturesque views, making those undulating hills well worth the pedal.

And, of course, the feed stops will help keep you going. You can top up your bottles and tuck into some of our famous homemade flapjacks. Or go for something savoury, like cheese and crackers - yum!

Source to Sea Trail

The Source to Sea Trail is an adventure by gravel bike or mountain bike, taking you into the heart of Yorkshire. This epic cycling event will take plan on the 7th May, starting from the Pennine moors and, many miles later, bringing you to the Yorkshire coast. You’ll cross the Vale of York, head over the Humber Estuary, and loop back to the starting line in Hebden Bridge.

It promises to be a one-of-a-kind adventure, tracing the flow of rivers through an incredible variety of landscapes. The route spans three National Parks: The Dales, the Peak District, and the North York Moors.

The circular route covers 720kms with 9,200 meters of elevation. If that sounds like your kind of challenge, take part in this community event and register here. Registration is until Friday, 4th April.

Fred Whitton Challenge

The Fred Whitton Challenge is considered the toughest sportive in the UK, ranking right up there with European events like the Marmotte, Maratona dles Dolomites, and the Etape du Tour. It’s inspired by Fred Whitton, an extremely popular member of the Lakes Road Club.

Whether you’ve been training for this since last year or have only just heard about it and are thinking of preparing your stamina for this year’s challenge, mark 11th May on your calendar and start getting ready.

This legendary cycling event isn’t just a ride, but it’s a true test of endurance, rivalling some of Europe’s toughest cycling challenges. If you’re ready to take it on, registration is still open. Check out the details further down the page.

Note: Anyone can join the Fres Whitton Challenge, but the entry is through a ballot, with roughly a 40% chance of securing a spot. Charity entries are also available, providing guaranteed entry for riders who commit to raising a certain amount for charity.

Tour de France

While the Tour de France isn’t a UK cycling event, it’s a major one that many Brits, who are licensed riders, take part in. Almost the entire month of July 2025 is dedicated to this legendary race, starting on 5th July with a 185km loop around Lille, France. It will wrap up on 27th July with a return to its iconic final stage on the Champs-Élysées in the heart of Paris—likely ending in a thrilling sprint finish. The 2025 route covers a total of 3,320km (2,060 miles).

Tour de France is a professional sports competition featuring elite athletes, which you can watch live! Check out the event website for more details.

Note: The public can watch this event on TV or join the fun with the Tour de France Étape, a mass participation ride where amateur cyclists can experience a stage of the race on closed roads.
