15 Family-Friendly Annual Bike Events In Hertfordshire

Just outside of London there are some fantastic places to explore by bike and experience all there is. Here are 15 great places to visit by bike with your family.

Alban Way Loop from Hatfield - This route is pretty easy making it great for all age ranges. It would take you around 1 hour and 30 minutes and starts off at the incredible Hatfield House which has been used in films such as Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Batman.

Lee Valley VeloPark Loop from Cheshunt - If you’re looking for a route for more experienced cyclists then this is great. This would take you around 3 hours to complete and will require you to dismount your bike for one section.

Bridge over River Lee Loop from Theobalds Grove - This is another difficult route so an experienced rider is always best. This path is around 28 miles long and would take you around 3 hours.

Verulamium Park Loop from Park Street - Still one for experienced riders, this route would take around 2 hours to complete and is approximately 20 miles long.

Dunstable Downs Loop from St Albans City - Although this route is around 30 miles long, it’s still not a hard route. Along the way you’ll see St. Albans Cathedral and The Great Gateway of the Monastery.

Highest point Loop from Broxbourne - This route takes you under 2 hours, you’ll start from Enfield Canal Lock and finish at Broxbourne train station. 

Ivinghoe Beacon Loop from Hemel Hempstead - This difficult route would take you around 8 hours so be sure you’re up for the challenge first. You’ll start at Hemel Hempstead train station and finish at the same spot.

Nickey Line Loop from Harpenden - Taking you around 4 hours, this 38 mile long route is definitely one for experienced cyclists.

Emily's Tea Shop Loop from Hatfield - This route would take you around 4 hours and sees you beginning at Hatfield Train Station and then you’ll finish at the same spot. This is similar to the Nickey Line Loop but shorter and would see you stop off at fewer viewpoints.

Cole Green Way - If you’re looking for a super simple route then this is ideal. It’ll take you around 1 hour and 30 minutes and will take you on tarmac roads and forest trails. You will need to carry your bike up steps for one section so be prepared for a small climb.

Lee Valley VeloPark Loop from Cheshunt - This loop would take you just under 3 hours since it’s 27 miles long. You’ll see some fantastic and historic sights along this route.

Alban Way / Charrington Place Loop from St Albans Abbey - This is a mega simple and easy route to take on. It’s 11 miles long and would take you around 1 hour to complete.

Dunstable Downs Loop from St Albans City - This loop is 33 miles long and would take you around 3 hours to complete. It’s a fantastic route full of lots of scenery!

Highest point Loop from Broxbourne - This is a 19 mile long loop that is great if you’re looking for some waterside scenery. It’ll take you around 2 hours to complete.

Alban Way Loop from Harpenden - This is a 24 mile long loop and would take you around 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
