The Metric is a small-wheeled utility bike, inspired by our recent visit to Kyoto. ‘Mini-velo’ adult bikes are a huge trend in Japan, where they are stored in tiny apartments and used to zip around the city back alleys on errands. It doesn’t fold, which means the frame is elegantly slim, light and more rigid than a folder. Fitted with a handy front rack (removable if you like), it’s surprisingly sporty and fast.

Metric is a one-size unisex machine that can be swapped between colleagues and family members. Riding this bike will fill you with joy and make you look very cool indeed.

Finding the correct size bike starts with measuring the legs. Take a measuring tape, place it on the floor inside the leg and measure upwards. Now check the chart below.

    One size

    Inside Leg

    24.8" - 39.8"
    63cm - 101cm

    Rider Height

    5'2" - 6'3"
    157cm - 190cm

Rider heights are given as a guide only. Everyone has different length legs, regardless of height. We strongly recommend measuring the inside leg before choosing the size!

The Metric comes with a small front carrier rack. You can carry bags on this, if they are secured with a bungee such as our Long Bungee. You can also get creative and add your own wooden or metal crate.

On the handlebars, you can attach a Single Button or a Single Toggle bag. Or you can put a Daytripper Saddlebag under the saddle.

The Metric does not come with a rear carrier rack. You can attach your own, so long as it is compatible with 20” wheel bikes.

It is possible to attach a front childseat to the handlebar stem.

Assembling your bike is empowering. It’s a great way to understand how it works! Please click here to view our step by step guide to assembly.

    • The bike arrives in a box. The handlebars, front wheel, front mudguard and pedals must be attached.
    • You will need a multi-tool or hex key set, 10mm spanner, 15mm wrench, scissors, pliers, a screwdriver and a pump.

    Some things to note:

    • Select "Click and Collect” or “Mobile Mechanic" (London M25) in the check-out if you want free assembly.
    • If you assemble your own bike, it’s very important that you do it correctly. If you have doubts, pay your local bike mechanic to check over your handiwork or assemble it for you.
    • In the first few weeks of use, you can expect your bike to ‘bed-in’. You must check everything is tight before each ride. Cables will stretch so your gears and brakes will need adjustment.
